The Challenge
A brownfield field re-development required five new offshore platforms, approximately 75 km of pipelines, four subsea umbilicals and two subsea skids to be delivered and commissioned into a live producing field. Every tie-in, shutdown and SIMOPS window had to be negotiated against ongoing production.
The pipeline scope included a horizontal directional drilling shore approach, where a single installation failure would have had no practical recovery option and a direct impact on first gas.
Our Approach
Five platforms and 75 km of pipeline delivered into a live producing field — the interfaces were managed as the primary risk, because they were.
VORYX team members carried the scope through engineering, fabrication, installation and commissioning, managing the EPIC tender and award and then holding the contractor to the technical basis established at bid stage.
Interface management was run formally from the outset — between the platform scope, the pipeline scope, the subsea skids and the existing brownfield facilities — with named owners and required-by dates on each interface rather than a coordination meeting standing in for a register.
The HDD shore crossing was managed as its own risk-controlled sub-project, with pull-in force analysis, contingency planning and a defined abort criterion agreed before the pull began.
What We Delivered
- EPIC tender management, technical bid evaluation and award support
- Engineering assurance across platforms, pipelines, umbilicals and skids
- Fabrication oversight and load-out readiness assurance
- HDD shore-crossing installation management and risk control
- Offshore installation and tie-in campaign support
- SIMOPS and brownfield shutdown coordination
- Pre-commissioning, commissioning and handover to operations
The Outcome
- Five platforms delivered and commissioned into a live producing field
- ~75 km of pipeline installed including a successful HDD shore crossing
- Subsea umbilicals and skids integrated with existing infrastructure
- EPIC scope carried from tender through to operational handover
